Lenore Foster
SOMATIC EDUCATOR
CERTIFIED YOGA TEACHER
Lenore studied Clinical Somatic Education (also known as Clinical Somatics) at the Somatic Systems Institute in Northampton, MA and is certified as a Somatic Educator. Clinical Somatics, founded by Thomas Hanna, Ph.D in the 1970s, is a form of neuromuscular retraining that alleviates chronic pain and improves function and mobility. It has transformed her own functioning significantly. After rowing competitively in the late 1990s, Lenore developed some lower back issues that had been unresolved until she discovered Somatics. Through her kindness, compassion and sense of humour, Lenore is interested in helping people get in touch with their bodies, and showing them how stress and unconscious movement habits affect their bodies. Ultimately she hopes to empower people to take control of their own wellness so they experience more freedom and independence.
Lenore is also a certified yoga teacher. She teaches locally and enhanced her studies with various courses including Kinesiology of Yoga, Therapeutic Yoga Intensive, Towards A Healthy Pelvic Floor, and The Roll Model: Myofascial Self-Care for Yoga and Beyond. In 2015 she opened her home studio and has been offering Hatha Yoga, Therapeutic Yoga and Somatic Education classes since then.
One of many testimonials:
“Seeing Lenore has been incredibly helpful and revealing. I have dealt with chronic pain issues for over 10 years now, having seen many specialists and clinics. The help I received came in what I now see as a patchwork of recurring surface level maintenance that did not address underlying patterns reinforcing a cycle of pain. I was able to get routine help and then return innocently to daily movement habits that undid gains. And over time this created an environment where I didn’t know or didn’t listen to what my body needed, deepening the problem. Lenore’s practice identified damaging patterns, helped me build invaluable body awareness, developed a skillset to put my health in my hands, and has shown invaluable positive improvements. She identified places where I did not realize I was holding stress. Exercises helped with neck, back, shoulder, and leg pain. And when I visited one specialist in particular, they noticed that the misalignment of my spine that had continually reasserted itself over months was gone. What Lenore does is subtle but her work is very special and the cumulative results are dramatic. I would recommend her to anyone no matter where they are on the path to greater wellness.” — Ryan
A fun fact: Lenore has played the trombone since grade 4 in various jazz bands and orchestras throughout high school, university and in the community. She loves the outdoors and camping and enjoys cycling, hiking and yoga.
